Unclaimed Items

Policy:

After four days on hold, an item’s status automatically changes from on hold to unclaimed.  Once items go unclaimed, libraries must return the items to the owning item library or if on hold, sent to the next patron.

Items “Missing In Action”

Policy:

The library where an item was last checked-in is responsible for items that go unclaimed or not put in transit.

Compensation:

The owning item library may issue a 4-month bill to the last check-in library for items not returned. There are no refunds on Missing in Action payments.

Recommendation:

Libraries should regularly run the unclaimed checklist and purge their hold shelves accordingly. Prior to billing, libraries should contact the last check-in library to help locate material that may have gone missing in action.
