Breakfast recap

    1. Opening buffet right away was a big hit

BCCLS Friends Committee Minutes 11/3/17, 9:30 AM

Hasbrouck Heights Public Library

Present: Jeanne Sylvester, Nutley; Darlene Swistock, BCCLS; Emiliana Tuohey, Fair Lawn; Ellen O’Keefe, Glen Rock; Lynn Kloss, Teaneck; Georgene Betterbed, Glen Rock; Melissa Singlevich, Hasbrouck Heights; Robin Rockman, Oradell

  1. Minutes: The minutes of October 13, 2017 meeting were approved
  2. Breakfast Recap
    1. Net amount not final yet: $5635 Total; $3995 from silent auction; $1615 donations; 284 paid plates ($6/plate goes to BCCLS)
    2. Serving breakfast right away was great and well received
    3. Encourage more donations.
    4. Good to have baskets of all values, from high end to bargain deal
    5. More door prizes
    6. Continue to pursue raffle license to allow for mix of silent auction, basket with tickets (tricky tray-style), and 50/50 raffle.
    7. Moving forward, send out list of successful baskets to inspire next year’sbasket creators.
    8. On baskets, give hints and descriptions of items on baskets to ensure the items and value is visible.
    9. Need more bid sheets to account for last minute baskets
    10. Stress the need for vegan and gluten free food options with Seasons
    11. More coffee
    12. Move timeline up and start encouraging libraries/Friends to have baskets ready earlier.
    13. Encourage libraries that sponsored scholarship winners to pay for winners to attend.
  3. December 5th Advocacy Event
    1. Reviewed Advocacy Guide: http://www.ala.org/united/sites/ala.org.united/files/content/powerguide/united-power-guide.pdf ; will pare down into shorter handout focusing on WHY should we advocate and HOW do we do it.  Melissa working on it, send to Emiliana by 11/13/17
    2. Raphael Badaglicca attended meeting to determine his message
    3. Darlene: based on feedback, suggested we start earlier and give more time for speakers and interaction.  Tentative timeline:

                    10:20 Erin @Fair Lawn “Engaging Teens” w/ time for Q&A

                    10:40 Oradell “Use Your Library Voice” campaign w/ time for Q&A
